Restoration of an ancient Moorish villa on the hill of Algiers
Role
Lead Architect
Date
2024
Location
Algiers, Algeria
Villa M is a traditional Moorish villa in Algiers, Algeria, reflects the unique architectural style and cultural heritage of the region. It is a beautiful example of the rich architectural heritage of Algeria, representing a fusion of different cultural influences and showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of the region.
The interiors are equally stunning, showcasing a blend of Islamic and Andalusian design influences. High ceilings with decorative plasterwork, geometric patterns on tiles and mosaics, and colorful zellige (intricate tilework) create an atmosphere of opulence and sophistication. The use of vibrant colors, such as blues, greens, and yellows, adds to the richness of the interior spaces.
Villa M is designed to harmoniously blend with their natural surroundings. It has gardens with citrus trees, date palms, and fragrant flowers. This integration with nature further enhances the villa's charm and tranquility.
The architecture is defined by clean, harmonious volumes articulated with natural stone, stucco finishes, and light-toned materials that reflect the intense local sunlight. Carefully proportioned openings and deep balconies provide both shade and ventilation, while maximizing visual connections with the surrounding landscape.
Attention to scale and detail is evident throughout the project, from the selection of locally sourced materials to the refined integration of architectural lighting and custom finishes. Sustainability principles are embedded in the design through passive cooling strategies, water-efficient landscaping, and low-impact construction techniques.
Residencial Villa Torino stands as a refined architectural expression that balances tradition and innovation, offering an exclusive residential experience rooted in cultural context and climatic responsiveness.
