Extension Project Middle School of Legino
Role
Senior Architect
Date
2009
Location
Savona, Italy
The project involves the expansion of the Legino middle school branch to create new spaces for both teaching and dining purposes.
The existing building currently accommodates the Guidobono middle school branch and the Mignone primary school branch. It is in acceptable condition, both internally and externally, and is already equipped with the necessary systems for fire prevention and accessibility for people with disabilities.
The intervention consists of two new extensions, developed on two floors, not as a reorganization of internal circulation, but specifically to meet the demand for additional classrooms and an upgraded canteen. The current canteen and its auxiliary spaces are inadequate and no longer meet functional requirements.
The first extension is located within the inner courtyard and houses the new canteen block. This allows the existing canteen, situated on the mezzanine floor, to be converted into two classrooms for the primary school. The second extension, located in the current play area, adds a classroom with new support facilities on the third floor.
This dual intervention responds to the increasing spatial needs of the school, improving both teaching capacity and service quality.
