Residence "Palazzo Nuovo"
Role
Senior Architect
Date
2010
Location
Valmala, Italy
The project, developed in collaboration with Arch. Bachiorrini, involves the renovation and modernization of the existing “Palazzo Nuovo” building within the Sanctuary complex, with the goal of maintaining and enhancing its current hospitality function. Currently used only during the summer months, the facility offers 24 rooms for up to 36 guests.
The proposed intervention will enable year-round use, with 20 fully renovated rooms accommodating 32 guests. The slight reduction in capacity results from the integration of private bathrooms in each unit, improving comfort and hygiene standards.
The renovation addresses the building’s outdated sanitary and safety conditions, aiming to relaunch it as a modern hospitality structure. The reorganization of interior spaces and the addition of accessible features will ensure full usability, including for people with disabilities, while significantly enhancing the quality and functionality of the service.
A possible agreement with the privately run trattoria/bar inside the nearby "Casa del Pellegrino" could complement the hospitality offer.
The upgraded facility is expected to support both religious tourism linked to the Sanctuary and winter tourism, thanks to the nearby cross-country skiing trails and the surrounding natural landscape, currently undergoing strong development.
